FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Your Questions Answered
DO YOU BELONG TO A PROFESSIONAL BODY?
Yes. I
am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
WHAT TYPE OF THERAPY DO YOU PROVIDE?
I work as an Integrative Counsellor however all my work is underpinned by gaining a strong helping relationship with my clients using Person Centred Therapy (PCT). Within my practice I will also use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Gestalt which allows me to use different skills and techniques from these theories to adapt and provide an effective therapy for my clients. I am not shy to be creative to help open my clients mind to make the unconscious, conscious. This provides the opportunity to promote self-awareness and become unstuck to help them move forwards. (my practice will depend on how my client works best).
HOW MANY SESSIONS WOULD I NEED TO HAVE AND HOW FREQUENTLY WOULD I NEED THEM?
The number of sessions can vary depending on the client and what they bring to therapy. Usually starting with approximately 12 sessions and more if required (the number of sessions will be discussed halfway through the therapy to ensure my client is getting what they need from their sessions) I would recommend that clients attend one session per week to start with. However this can be discussed if two weekly sessions suit better. I am a strong believer in the more you put into your therapy the more you get from it.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANNOT ATTEND A BOOKED SESSION?
If I need to cancel a session I will give my client 24 hours notice and I ask that each client gives me a minimum of 24 hours’ notice too if you are unable to attend a session. I reserve the space and time for you to attend and I will not be able to work with someone else in your place so anything less than 24 hours notice means you will be charged for the full rate of your session, however exceptions may apply which can be discussed at the time. My clients will not be charged any fee if I cancel a session. I can be contacted via email or phone (call or text) if a session is needing to be cancelled.
IS THIS SERVICE CONFIDENTIAL?
Under the GDPR Act, any data I collect will be anonymised. I understand that coming to therapy can be challenging for people. I provide a confidential, understanding and none judgmental space for my clients to be themselves. However, there are certain exceptions which would breach the confidentiality agreement and you will be notified at the time. These exceptions include: Drugs Trafficking, if you are at risk of harm to yourself or others, child abuse and/ or terrorism.
WHAT HAPPENS IF LATER DOWN THE LINE I DO NOT FEEL YOU ARE THE RIGHT COUNSELLOR FOR ME OR I DON’T FEEL I AM GETTING WHAT I NEED FROM MY THERAPY?
I believe that honesty in the therapeutic relationship is extremely important. I would expect my client to discuss this with me so that I can help to signpost them in another direction where their needs can be better met. I will not take any offence if my clients raise any concerns, I will support them the best way I can.
